Porsche Classic has restored a 1972 911 S 2.4 Targa as a tribute to the founding of Porsche Design and F. A. Porsche himself. The 911 is finished in the same colors as the Chronograph I watch that was designed in 1972.
Bidding on the 911 Targa opened November 29 and will close on December 14, 2022. The estimate from RM Sotheby’s is $275,000 – $375,000 and they should have no problem achieving that as the current bid is $365,000 with 13 days remaining until the auction closes.
This is a fairly unique car and really a one-off from Porsche Classic, styled in line with the modern 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design model. It’s been updated to the S-edition specs, both engine and chassis, so it should make for a very fun time on the road.
Included in the auction is the Chronograph 1 – 911 S 2.4 Targa – yes, that’s the name of the watch – which was created specifically for this auction and based on the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition. It’s notable in large part due to the Porsche wheel-inspired design on the back of the watch.
We’re not sure how much impact the watch will have on the final selling price of the tribute to F. A. Porsche, but we do expect to see the bids exceed the estimate from RM Sotheby’s before the auction closes on December 14, 2022.
