2023 Honda Civic Type R Debut at Mid-Ohio

Honda Civic Type R Debut - Mid-Ohio

The all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R is expected to make its U.S. debut, at least in prototype form, at the Honda Indy 200 NTT INDYCAR SERIES weekend at Mid-Ohio during the first three days of July. It will be sporting a special Type R camouflage and should complete several demonstration hot laps during the weekend. It will also serve as the lead vehicle at the start of the race on July 3.

The 2023 Ciciv Type R recently set a new track record at Suzuka, lapping the 3.6 mile figure-8 track in 2 minutes 23.120 seconds. That topped the previous record for a front-wheel drive car, set by a 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, by nearly a full second.

Honda has maintained a close relationship with central Ohio and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for many years, having been the first Japanese company to establish auto manufacturing in the U.S. with the opening of Honda of America Manufacturing in Marysville, Ohio in 1982. Honda has had an Official Vehicle relationship with the Mid-Ohio track since 1994.

Mid-Ohio has seen a great deal of success from Honda-powered drivers since the Indycar series returned to the track in 2007. To date 11 of the 16 Indycar races held in that period have been won by a Honda-powered car, leading some to think of Mid-Ohio as Honda’s “home circuit” in the U.S.

More information about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will be shared as it becomes available.
