Bonhams Sells Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+

Million Dollar Bugatti by Bonhams

The Bugatti Chiron, unveiled in 2016 as the successor to the legendary Veyron, redefined the term “hypercar” and became the new benchmark for automotive performance and luxury. It’s a technological marvel, powered by an 8.0L, quad-turbocharged W16 engine that initially delivered an astonishing 1,500 horsepower. This immense power propelled the Chiron from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.4 seconds, with its top speed electronically limited to 261 mph for safety reasons. The Chiron’s design, a perfect blend of brutal performance and unparalleled craftsmanship, features the iconic Bugatti horseshoe grille and a signature C-line that wraps around the side. All of this is built upon a state-of-the-art carbon-fiber monocoque chassis. The Chiron’s very existence challenged engineering limits, paving the way for its more extreme variants.

Inspired by one of the most significant achievements in modern automotive history—shattering the mythical 300 mph speed barrier—the Chiron Super Sport 300+ was conceived. On August 2, 2019, a modified, near-production prototype of the Chiron, driven by Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace, achieved a certified top speed of 304.773 mph at the Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany. This run wasn’t just an incremental improvement; it was a monumental leap that redefined the limits of what a street-legal hypercar could achieve. The success of this endeavor laid the foundation for a limited-production run, a tribute to the record-breaking vehicle and a celebration of Bugatti’s 110th anniversary.

Following the record-breaking run, the 2022 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ was unveiled as a highly exclusive customer version, limited to just 30 units worldwide. Inspired visually and technically by the prototype, the production model featured the distinctive “Longtail” bodywork—extended by 25 cm for enhanced aerodynamic efficiency—and an upgraded version of the quad-turbo 8.0L W16 engine, capable of producing 1,600 PS (1,176 kW). Finished in exposed black carbon fiber with “Jet Orange” racing stripes, the car was a clear visual tribute to the speed record. While the customer cars included an electronic top-speed limiter for safety – set to 273 mph – their primary objective was to deliver an uncompromising blend of unparalleled performance, stability, and exclusivity, solidifying their status as a pinnacle of the Chiron’s illustrious production run. Deliveries of these exceptional vehicles commenced in early 2022.
