Mecum Kissimmee 2024 - DeLoreans on Display
Mecum‘s annual Kissimmee sale is kicking off the collector car auction calendar for 2024 and more than 4,000 vehicles are expected to cross the block. As one of the largest auction companies focused on collector cars in the world Mecum is never short on selection at their sales. This month though, it’s worth noting that Florida is the place to be for anyone looking to add a DeLorean to their collection.
Considering how few DeLoreans were built – around 9,000 were built and obviously fewer are still around today – it’s remarkable to see seven different DeLoreans at the same auction, but that’s what will be on site in Kissimmee. Built from 1981 through 1983, every model year will be available at Mecum’s auction and only one of them is outfitted to look like the one from the “Back to the Future” movies!
Seven DeLoreans at Mecum
The first of the DeLoreans is set to hit the auction block on Friday, January 5. It’s a 1981 model year car equipped with a five-speed transmission and shows 27,028 miles on its odometer. It’s an early production car and is equipped with the two-part arm rest extension as well as the original placement of the pull straps on the doors. Mecum estimates this will sell for $50,000 – $60,000 and as it does have a reserve, time will tell if the first week in Kissimmee will be the right day for the right bidder to take this home.
The following day, Saturday, January 6 a 1983 DeLorean DMC-12 will cross the block. This example shows fewer miles – only 20,217 – and has a pre-auction estimate of $50,000 – $75,000. It is part of the Thompson’s Muscle Car Collection so it might seem a bit out of place next to its stablemates, but as that collection is well-sorted this may be one of the nicer options for DeLorean collectors.
The next two DMC-12s set to sell will be offered on Thursday, January 11. One of them is the aforementioned “Back to the Future” movie car replica and should bring a fair bit more on the block as high-quality replicas such as this are generally worth more than the standard DeLorean. Its pre-auction estimate is $155,000 – $165,000. The other example set to cross the block that day is a 1981 model year car being offered with no reserve and has a pre-auction estimate of $65,000 – $85,000.
Two more examples of the DeLorean DMC-12 will hit Mecum‘s auction block on Friday, January 12. The first of these is a 1981 model year car and is the second of these to feature from the Thompson’s Muscle Car Collection. It shows 18,523 miles and comes with some “Back to the Future” memorabilia. Mecum’s estimate on this car is $50,000 – $75,000.
The second DMC-12 that will cross the auction block on January 12 is a particularly low-mileage example, showing just 3,080 miles since new. It appears to be as close to pristine as possible for a car built in 1983 and has a pre-auction estimate of $60,000 – $80,000.
The last DeLorean DMC-12 set to be offered for sale by Mecum in Kissimmee will make its appearance on Saturday, January 13. This 1981 model year example comes from the Asi & Lisa Sheikh Collection, a choice assortment of seven phenomenal cars. The DeLorean is being offered with no reserve and has a pre-auction estimate of $90,000 – $100,000, which shouldn’t be too surprising as its odometer shows only 1,970 miles since new. It’s equipped with an automatic transmission as well as the optional side stripe that helps it stand out even amongst other DeLoreans.
