RM Sotheby's Zurich Boutique Sale
RM Sotheby’s is kicking off its autumn live-sale calendar with an intimate but heavyweight auction at the Park Hyatt Zurich on September 26, offering just 18 cars that span four decades of automotive engineering. The sale pairs the newest breed of hybrid hypercars with some of the most storied names of the 1960s and 70s, giving bidders a rare chance to cross-shop a Formula 1-derived Mercedes against a matching-numbers Ferrari from the same afternoon.
Few cars carry the mystique of the Ferrari F40, and the example crossing the block in Zurich checks nearly every collector box. Delivered new to Switzerland in July 1991 in the desirable “cat, non-adjust” configuration, it retains its matching-numbers V-8 and gearbox and wears the factory-correct Rosso Corsa over Stoffa Vigogna color combination. Ferrari Classiche certified the car in October 2018, and it comes complete with its “Red Book,” lending significant provenance weight to an estimate of CHF3,200,000 to CHF3,500,000, or roughly USD3.95 million to USD4.32 million.
With production capped at just 100 units at Pagani’s Atelier in San Cesario sul Panaro, the 2020 Huayra Roadster on offer is among the last built and comes from a single owner who has covered a mere 592 kilometers. Finished in Rosso Dubai with gold diamond-cut wheels and a two-tone Malevic leather and Alcantara cabin, it carries an estimate of CHF2,500,000 to CHF3,000,000, or approximately $3.09 million to $3.70 million.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG One represents a different kind of rarity: a road car built around a genuine Formula 1 hybrid powertrain. Its turbocharged 1.6L V6 traces directly back to the W07 chassis that carried Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to the 2016 constructors’ and drivers’ titles. Single-owner from new, finished in black with Petronas Green accents, and showing just 506 kilometers, it is estimated at CHF2,300,000 to CHF2,500,000, or roughly $2.84 million to $3.09 million.
Representing the classic supercar era, the 1969 Miura P400 S is one of only 338 examples built and features early-production solid disc brakes. Delivered new to France, the car counts former Formula 1 race winner and ex-Ferrari driver René Arnoux among its past owners, adding a layer of motorsport pedigree to its Rosso Corsa over Nero and beige presentation. It carries an estimate of CHF1,400,000 to CHF1,600,000, or roughly $1.73 million to $1.97 million.
Rounding out the top lots is a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage, one of only 21 left-hand-drive Vantage-powered saloons built. It underwent a comprehensive three-year restoration by Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, completed in 2021, and retains its original Silver Birch paint over a dark blue leather interior. It is estimated at CHF800,000 to CHF950,000, or roughly $987,000 to $1.17 million.
