Mecum Results from Indy 2025

Mecum Auctions completed their 2025 Indianapolis Auction on May 17, selling three cars over the last two days for more than $1,000,000. Rather than focusing on the modern supercars, we’re going to take a closer look at some exclusive American muscle cars as well as an Italian poster car from the 1990s.

This 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird, auctioned by Mecum Auctions, is distinctive as one of just 77 produced with an automatic transmission. It boasts a matching numbers 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine paired with a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission and includes the A36 Performance Axle Package. The vehicle has undergone a thorough rotisserie restoration, featuring power steering, power brakes with front discs, and an eye-catching Lemon Twist exterior.

The Superbird is equipped with high-back black vinyl bucket seats, a column-mounted shifter, and a dashboard cluster that displays gauges along with a 150 MPH speedometer. Other features include 3-speed wiper controls, an AM radio, and premium three-spoke sport wheels. It sits on 15-inch Rallye wheels outfitted with Goodyear Polyglas GT tires, adding to its well-rounded and unique appearance.

This was well-sold at $605,000.

The second 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird sold by Mecum Auctions in Indianapolis. It’s one of only 77 Hemi Superbirds made with an automatic transmission, from a total production of 135 Hemi-powered units. This particular car has been professionally restored to excellent condition and includes its original broadcast sheet. The odometer reads just 33,085 miles, indicating it has been well-maintained. It features the Tic-Toc Tach factory option.

Underneath its hood lies a powerful 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine paired with a durable TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission. Additionally, it boasts a Performance Axle Package that includes a 3.55 ratio 8 3/4 Sure Grip rear end. The car stands out visually in EV2 Tor Red paint with a black vinyl top and silver-accented black interior. Other notable features include power front disc brakes, power steering, a max cooling package, and a Hemi suspension package. Completing its look are Rallye wheels fitted with Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 tires, along with its original aero nose and prominent rear wing. Its Wise Report further assures its authenticity and appeal.

Of the two Hemi Superbirds that were sold by Mecum, this was the more affordable and was well-bought at $418,000.

The 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro is a rare vehicle, with only 201 made for that year. It stands out as one of the top examples available in its original condition. This model features mostly untouched paint and interior elements, and it has impressively low mileage at just 19,762 miles. The Hugger Orange version includes the original engine, specifically a matching-numbers COPO 9561 L72 427/425 HP engine, accompanied by extensive documentation.

Even considering the rarity of this car and its originality, it was still well-sold at $715,000.

The 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback is a highly prized muscle car, particularly noted for its factory Calypso Coral exterior and white interior. This distinctive color scheme is extremely uncommon; originally, only 13 cars were produced with it, and today just five are known to exist. This specific vehicle has undergone an extensive rotisserie restoration by a specialist in the marque, ensuring its originality and immaculate condition. It features the matching-numbers Boss 429 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and Hurst Competition Shifter, providing powerful performance.

Externally, the car sports white Boss 429 decals, bright chrome Magnum 500 wheels, and Goodyear Polyglas tires. Inside, it boasts rare, factory-built white knit-vinyl high-back bucket seats, enhancing its unique allure. The thorough restoration includes even the undercarriage, reflecting the exceptional quality and precision applied to this vehicle. A Marti Report verifies all factory options, such as the Drag Pack, Competition Suspension, and Convenience Group, affirming its status as one of the most scarce and valuable Boss 429 models. It was well-sold at $627,000.

The 1996 Ferrari F512 M stands out as a unique and powerful mid-engine supercar, with only 501 units ever made. Under the hood is an enhanced 4.9L Tipo F113G Flat-12 engine that delivers 435 HP, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62 MPH in 4.7 seconds while reaching a top speed of 196 MPH. Additionally, this F512 M holds Ferrari Classiche certification, including its “Red Book,” owner’s manual, and toolkit.
