Busy Monterey Car Week for Mercedes-AMG
Mercedes-Benz will have a lot on display during Monterey Car Week. Not one, but two new Mercedes-AMG models are set to make their world debuts at the same time the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven will be displayed. The latest and greatest from Mercedes-Maybach will also be available to view, along with a selection of cars from Brabus.
The Heritage division of Mercedes-Benz will showcase Sport and Super Sport models from the company’s collection while a significant number of W 06 cars are expected to be the largest gathering of that series in North America after Pebble Beach.
The soon-to-debut Mercedes-AMG GT, a two-door sport model, will be the fifth car developed completely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. Although it will retain some characteristics of its predecessors, it’s expected to be a markedly different and unique automobile.
Mercedes-AMG SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Big Sur
On Wednesday, August 16, 2023 Mercedes-AMG presented a special edition of their SL model, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Big Sur that will be a limited production model built exclusively for U.S. customers. The car is finished in MANUFAKTUR Orange Flame Metallic with some body panels, such as the front and rear bumpers being hand-sprayed to ensure the finish meets the exacting demands of the MANUFAKTUR line.
Inside the 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Big Sur features red and black leather with contrasting orange stitching. This look is applied to the seats, door panels, steering wheel, armrest, and more. The seats showcase a diamond quilting pattern with perforations while the floor mats continue the red leather with orange stitching.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Big Sur offers a huge array of standard equipment such as the Front Axle Lift System, AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL SUSPENSION, an AMG Light Display, and a Driver Assistance Package that should live up to the performance expected from the AMG and SL brands. It’s powered by a 4.0L V8 Biturbo that’s handcrafted to produce 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. That’s paired with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive that can propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Classic Mercedes-Benz on Display
Elsewhere during Monterey Car Week, Mercedes-Benz will display a number of classic models from their Historic collection. The Mercedes-Benz 600 limousine, the W 100 series, will be present to commemorate its premiere along with the W 113 series Mercedes-Benz “Pagoda Roof” SL that made its debut in 1963, a significant step forward in automotive safety while retaining the style and performance of the SL name.
Following Monterey Car Week a tour to celebrate the supercharged sports car and race cars of the S-series will take place. It’s expected that 20 of these W 06 series cars will participate and two of them will be from the manufacturer’s own collection – a Sport and Super Sport model.
More information will be provided regarding the as-yet unrevealed Mercedes-AMG GT following its premiere this week.
