RM Sotheby's Consigns Ferrari F40s for Monterey 2025
Launched in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, the F40 was the final model personally endorsed by Enzo Ferrari. It boasts a 2.9L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that delivers 471 horsepower and is constructed with materials like Kevlar, carbon fiber, and Nomex.

Focused on performance, it omits features such as a stereo, power seats, or ever carpet, which helps keep its weight just over 2,400 pounds. This design enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about four seconds. At its debut, it gained recognition for being the swiftest, most powerful, and costliest Ferrari ever produced. Every detail of the car’s design, including its vents and curves, serves a practical function.
RM Sotheby’s recently announced the consignment of two notable examples of the Ferrari F40 that will be offered at their 2025 Monterey auction in August.

This 1992 Ferrari F40, Chassis No. ZFFGJ34B000094647, is renowned as the “Blue Chip 40,” a remarkable interpretation of the classic model. Originally finished on July 29, 1992, in the traditional Rosso Corsa with Stoffa Vigogna interior, it underwent an impressive transformation in 2021 at Furlonger Specialist Cars in the UK. It now features an eye-catching Azzurro Hyperion exterior complemented by blue Alcantara trim. Initially sold new in Bologna to Paolo Pazzaglia, this late-production Italian version was driven for over 5,000 kilometers (approximately 3,106 miles) before being sold again in mid-1993.

This F40 stands out not only for its unique looks but also for enhancements that boost its performance and make it one-of-a-kind. The upgrades include an F40 LM gearbox, 355-mm Brembo brakes, a Tubi exhaust system, enhanced wastegates, and a KW adjustable suspension with a lift kit. For additional comfort, air conditioning has been installed. Before these modifications were made, the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2013, ensuring its original body, chassis, engine, and other components, and includes its Red Book and Certificate of Authenticity. Its detailed records feature the original warranty and service manual, gearbox, libretto, as well as UK V5s and MOTs that verify its mileage, alongside service invoices covering over twenty years.
RM Sotheby’s estimates this will sell for $2,500,000 – $2,800,000 this coming August at their Monterey auction.

This remarkable 1990 Ferrari F40, Chassis No. ZFFGJ34B000084036, is an exceptionally scarce find in the world of collector cars. This particular model is a sought-after “non-cat, non-adjust” version, indicating it was produced earlier and in a more unrefined specification. It was completed in February 1990 as a European-market vehicle, which you can tell by its kilometer-calibrated instruments.
What distinguishes this F40 is its extraordinary history: it has remained with its original owner since it was new and boasts an impressively low mileage of just 360 kilometers (about 224 miles).

The car’s story began when it was delivered to its sole owner by Hong Seh Motors, the official Ferrari distributor for Southeast Asia. After delivery, the F40 went into long-term storage for an impressive 35 years, remaining virtually untouched and serving as a time capsule. Only recently has this automotive gem reemerged from its extended hibernation, making its debut to the public and offering enthusiasts and collectors the chance to witness its unique originality.

This F40 exhibits remarkable preservation and originality. Every detail is thoroughly recorded through factory markings, body numbers, and other identifiers. The blue stickers on the wheels, date-coded tires from 1989, and witness marks on fittings remain unchanged, all of which serve as evidence of its pristine condition. After years of being stationary, a recent leak-down test showed only 2% leakage across all cylinders, confirming that the engine remains in excellent working order.
RM Sotheby’s expects this 1990 Ferrari F40 to sell for $2,400,000 – $2,600,000 when it crosses the block in August at their 2025 Monterey auction.
