Bonhams Goodwood Results
Bonhams held their Goodwood Festival of Speed auction and overall it was a solid result. Some strong prices were achieved and some great cars crossed the auction block. Interestingly, it seems that Bonhams is developing a bit of a niche with the SLR McLaren Crown Edition.

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren ‘Crown Edition’ is an extremely rare variant of the already prestigious SLR McLaren supercar, which is a result of a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and their prior factory Formula 1 team McLaren.
Each of the Crown Edition SLR McLarens boasts a bespoke paint job to go along with the carbon fiber components it inherited from the 722 Edition SLR. Those components improved aerodynamic performance and include a front splitter, rear diffuser, and side skirts that give the car a more aggressive stance than the standard SLR.

The interior of the Crown Edition SLR features the highest quality materials including leather, Alcantara, and carbon fiber elements along with Crown Edition badges that show where in the production run of ten cars it fell.
Since the Crown Edition features all of the 722-spec parts, including the modified and uprated engine as well as lightweight alloy wheels and stiffer dampers, its performance is right on par with the 722. It boasts impressive performance figures such as a 0-62 mph time of only 3.8 seconds and is capable of reaching 300 km/h in 28.8 seconds.

The example sold by Bonhams|Cars at their Goodwood Festival of Speed auction is finished in a stunning red with a matching red interior. It came from its first and only owner, who had it on static display since it was new. However it received a recommissioning prior to the sale and with just 60 km under its belt, it’s ready to take to the open road and show just what sort of grand touring machine Mercedes-Benz and McLaren were able to create.

This is the 4th of these Crown Edition SLRs to to be sold by Bonhams in a bit over a year and while each subsequent example went for more on the block than the prior one, this was a very notable jump in value at £563,500 – about $731,367 – compared with the prior record price of $545,820 a couple months ago. We have to say well done to Bonhams and call this a very well-sold car.
