The Quail, but for Two Wheels
Undoubtedly most of us are familiar with The Quail and its Motorsports Gathering that takes place during Monterey Car Week. The home of Bonhams’ Monterey auction and an always impressive display of collector cars, The Quail is an event that we suggest attending if given the opportunity.
The lesser-known sibling to the Motorsports Gathering is The Quail Motorcycle Gathering and it’s been missing in action since 2019. Well, no more! May 14, 2022 will see the return of this “premier motorcycle lifestyle event.”
2022 Legend of the Sport
Roland Sands will be honored as the 2022 Legend of the Sport during the 12th annual Motorcycle Gathering. Sands is known as the founder of Roland Sands Design of Long Beach, CA, an influential motorcycle product and apparel company. They also produce a variety of custom motorcycles built using parts they sell to the public as well as one-off parts made by Roland Sands himself.
The past five years have seen Roland Sands Design begin holding their own events including the Moto Beach Classic and the Super Hooligan National Championship, a series that brings together custom motorcycles and road racing. Prior to starting his company, Sands spent ten years as a professional racer and set several track records on his way to the 1998 AMA 250GP Championship.
New Attendance Options
Hosted at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club, this year will see the introduction of General Public Admission Only tickets, priced at $55 that include parking and even valet service for those riding motorcycles to the event. There are also tickets available that include a Hospitality package with lunch in a private seating area and plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages in the Hospitality Pavilion.
