Three Private Collection Auctions

This month we’ll see three single-owner collections offered for sale by three different auction companies. Mecum will offer Larry’s Legacy in Chicago, the remainder of the Larry Klairmont collection while Gooding Christie’s will offer the Stan Lucas Collection in Long Beach, CA. A recent addition to this month’s calendar is from Bonhams and we’ll discuss that shortly.

Mecum will offer the rest of the late Larry Klairmont’s collection the weekend of September 20 at the Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in Chicago. Following the passing of Larry Klairmont his eponymous museum has remained open, but this coming weekend will be the final chance for the public to tour it before the auction.

In addition to about 300 cars being offered from the museum, there will also be thousands of pieces of automotive memorabilia and other eclectic pieces of memorabilia and Americana.

After publishing the completed catalog for the Stan Lucas Collection Auction, Gooding Christie’s is readying for a single day, single collection auction of almost 100 examples of pre-war classic cars and motorcycles. While not every car is in concours-condition, there’s a lot of potential for the truly passionate collectors who are inspired to bring one of them back to as-new condition and ready for a coming cycle of major concours.

Having seen a Hispano-Suiza take Best in Show honors at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last month we expect at least a couple interested parties to bid on the 1922 Hispano-Suiza H6B Four-Passenger Touring Phaeton as we mentioned previously.

The most recent addition to this month’s auction calendar is from Bonhams|Cars in the form of the Robert Richardson Collection that features more than 700 examples of cars and memorabilia. Highlights include a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro IMSA Racecar as well as a very tricked out 1958 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop.

It’s not entirely clear if this is the same Robert Richardson Collection that was featured at Mecum’s 2022 Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction, but considering the quality of motorcycles that were offered as well as the quality of cars set to be offered by Bonhams it wouldn’t surprise us to find that it’s the same collection. Not to mention a 1910 Reading Standard 3-Wheeler that is being offered this month having previously been offered for sale by Mecum back in 2022, although it did not sell at that time.
