Centennial Marques for Pebble Beach 2025

Invicta

Founded in 1925, Invicta only built cars through 1935 but left a lasting mark on the automotive world. Founded by Noel Macklin, Invite’s early models were powered by a 2.5L Meadows engine that proved up for competition with victories at Brooklands in sprints and long-distance records at Monza and Montlhéry. The marque reached its pinnacle with the introduction of the S-type chassis at the London Motor Show in 1930. Just 77 examples were produced, all equipped with a 4.5L six-cylinder Meadows engine before the company shuttered in the turmoil of the Great Depression. Although attempts were made to reintroduce the name to contemporary automotive enthusiasts, Invicta has remained a lesser-known but still significant element of automotive history.

Chrysler

1925 was also the year Walter P Chrysler founded his eponymous marque and the centennial of this classic American car company will be celebrated at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Models produced by Chrysler in its earliest days were often outfitted by the top coachbuilders of the time – in fact, two of them have received Best in Show honors at previous editions of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Chrysler’s innovation continued with the introduction of the classic Town & Country and subsequent partnerships with Ghia into the 1950s. While it’s no longer an independent manufacturer – now Chrysler is part of the Stellantis automotive giant – the name still survivors and new Chryslers are built to this day.

Moretti

The third marque that will celebrate its centennial in style at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2025 is the lesser-known Moretti, founded in Italy in 1925. Although the company originally focused on motorcycles and microcars, after World War II the marque began focusing on more conventional designs. Setting Moretti apart from many other small Italian car companies, Moretti actually built their own engines and transmissions along with other components, providing for a more authentic feeling machine. The brand lasted until 1989, eventually partnering with Fiat to build a number of limited production sports and custom cars.

Other Pebble Beach Concours Featured Classes

Along with a special showing of cars to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the start of the modern era of Formula 1 cars, a class focused on the designs of Virgil Exner will showcase the stunning influence he had on styling from his days at Pontiac and Studebaker, culminating in his revolutionary designs at Chrysler in 1955 and 1957.

Another class that is of particular interest is the Japanese Prototypes and Concepts that will be specially curated for the show. Many of these have not been seen outside of Japan following their production in the 1970s and 1980s and the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will offer enthusiasts the first opportunity to see so many significant and yet relatively unknown models that inspired the mass market cars so many are familiar with today.
