1998 Lamborghini Pregunta for Sale

Lamborghini Pregunta

The Lamborghini Pregunta is a one-of-a-kind concept car that serves as a fascinating and futuristic footnote in the company’s history. Unveiled at the 1998 Paris Motor Show, the Pregunta was the result of a collaboration between Lamborghini and the French coachbuilder Carrosserie Heuliez. As its name, which means “question” in Spanish, suggests, the car was a bold inquiry into the future of automotive design, pushing the boundaries of what a supercar could be.

Lamborghini Pregunta History

Based on the chassis of a Lamborghini Diablo, the Pregunta was a radical departure from the brand’s established wedge-shaped design language. Its bodywork was crafted entirely from carbon fiber and took inspiration from the Dassault Rafale fighter jet, borrowing its matte gray paint, canopy-style wraparound windshield, and aggressive air intakes. The car represents a significant turning point, as it was one of the very last concepts created under Lamborghini’s pre-Audi ownership, serving as a wild and imaginative swan song for an era of unbridled design freedom.

Among its most unique features, the Pregunta’s fighter jet inspiration went beyond its exterior. The cockpit was designed with a clear focus on the driver, featuring a Magneti Marelli digital gauge cluster that was derived from Formula 1 racing. In a forward-thinking move for its time, the Pregunta replaced traditional side mirrors with rear-facing cameras that fed a central LCD screen. The interior also included a Cristine GPS navigation system, fiber optic ambient lighting, and bespoke aviation-style seats trimmed in blue Alcantara.

Despite its conceptual nature, the Pregunta was a fully functional and high-performance vehicle. It was built on a modified Lamborghini Diablo platform, which was re-engineered to be rear-wheel drive only. At its heart was a 5.7L V12 engine that produced a formidable 530 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque, all channeled through a five-speed gated manual transmission. This powertrain allowed the car to achieve a 0-62 mph time of just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of approximately 207 mph, making it a true supercar of its era.

Lamborghini Pregunta Legacy

The Pregunta’s legacy is defined by its role as a bridge between two eras for the brand: the wild, uninhibited designs of the pre-Audi period and the more refined, production-focused approach that followed. As the final Diablo-based concept, it paved the way for subsequent fighter-jet-inspired models like the Reventón, even though it never saw production. Its one-of-a-kind status and historical significance have made it a prized piece of automotive history. The car has been officially certified by Lamborghini’s heritage division and was even displayed in the Automobili Lamborghini Museum, recognizing its importance as a special milestone in the company’s rich history.
