Tailored for Speed Auction in Zurich

The Tailored for Speed Collection, arguably one of the most eagerly anticipated single-owner car auctions in recent memory, did not disappoint when it hit the auction block in Zurich on October 11. The collection, sold by RM Sotheby’s, smashed its pre-sale estimates, totalling CHF 69,672,120 – more than $87 million, making it their most successful European sale thus far – after intense bidding from attendees, telephone bidders, and online that helped achieve a 100% sell-through rate.

Top Sales from Tailored for Speed

Highlights of the auction include several blockbuster sales, with four cars going for more than CHF 5,000,000 and all of the top ten lots selling for more than CHF 2,000,000.

The top seller was the 2024 Ferrari Daytona SP3, one of just 600 examples and regarded by many as one of the most visually striking modern Ferraris produced. The Daytona SP3 is powered by a 6.5L V12 that generates 829 horsepower and propels the carbon fiber body and tub from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds with a top speed in excess of 210 mph.

The V12 hypercar, showing around 1,900 miles since new, brought a staggering CHF 5,348,750, solidly crushing its pre-sale high estimate. The Daytona SP3 had an MSRP of $2,250,000 and immediately sold out to Ferrari’s best customers. Turning $2.25 million into 1,900 miles behind the wheel of Maranello’s hottest production car on top of $6.7 million makes this a pretty impressive investment.

Close behind the Daytona SP3 was the 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta, finished in an eye-catching Bianco Italia metallic paint, which sold for CHF 5,292,500, also far exceeding its pre-auction estimate.

The Tailored for Speed Collection was also remarkable for featuring the complete set of Ferrari’s Corse Clienti XX track machines. The star of these three track-only cars was the 2016 Ferrari FXX K Evoluzione, selling for CHF 5,236,250. Both of the other XX cars were also well-sold with the 2008 Ferrari FXX Evo bringing CHF 4,055,000 and the 2012 Ferrari 599XX Evo achieving CHF 2,761,250. All three of the XX cars set new auction records for their respective models.

The world of sports racing also saw a new high water mark, with the historic 1998 Ferrari 333 SP selling for CHF 5,208,125. This 333 SP, the overall winner of the 1999 Sports Racing World Cup rounds at Barcelona and Monza, also set a new world record at auction for that model.
