New Alfa Romeo Classiche Heritage Program
Alfa Romeo announced the new Alfa Romeo Classiche heritage program. This will be a range of services provided by Alfa Romeo to protect and promote the history of the brand. Top management from Alfa Romeo will be personally involved in the process of certifying classic Alfa Romeos, with the company’s CEO charing the certification committee. The committee will be supported by the Alfa Romeo Museum, which is the location of production registers and all of the technical documentation utilized by the committee to authenticate examined cars.
Alfa Romeo’s CEO, Jean Philippe Imparato, said, “While planning for the future, our heritage is always our main source of inspiration. For us, the Alfa Romeo Classiche heritage program aims to enhance our historic automotive heritage by certifying the authenticity of vintage Alfa Romeos and giving new life to marvelous examples that still captivate and excite car enthusiasts around the world.”
The Alfa Romeo Classiche heritage program is similar to the well-known Ferrari Classiche department, which was started in 2006 to assist Ferrari owners with documenting the provenance of their cars and authenticating correct factory options. Ferrari’s department also provides maintenance work performed by Ferrari-certified technicians along with assistance restoring classic Ferraris.
A Ferrari Classiche Certificate of Authenticity – the Red Book – opens up a world of exclusive events that cater to the Ferrari collector. These include the Historic Grand Prix in Monaco, the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and the Le Mans Classic. The Certificate of Authenticity is available for all Ferraris more than 20 years old, as well as race cars with no age restrictions.
Beginning in 2016 Ferrari Classiche started expanding the number of Classiche Workshops beyond Maranello and built a network of official Classiche Workshops that provide the best services available for any Ferrari owner and can assist with the inspection and initial documentation required for a Certificate of Authenticity. The Workshops also help maintain records of the state of the cars and conformity to the information provided in the Certificate of Authenticity, reassessing with annual checks.
Ferrari Classiche is the primary source for official Ferrari parts. Parts on a car that do not match up with the documentation in Maranello are replaced by official Ferrari parts and those built by official partners. Ferrari Classiche is able to go as far as to create castings that are identical to the original parts and can add a great deal to the value of a classic or collector Ferrari.
The new heritage program from Alfa Romeo is expected to provide similar support and expertise. The Classiche heritage program will consist of the Certificate of Origin – which has been available for Alfa Romeo cars since 2016 – as well as the Certificate of Authenticity that will rely on internal production data contained within the company’s archives. Each car will undergo a rigorous and thorough evaluation by specialists in the Heritage department. This examination can be performed at the Officine Classiche in Mirafiori or at the customer’s home for those who are located elsewhere in the world.
Similar to Ferrari’s Classiche department, restoration services will be available that range from basic maintenance to a complete, frame-off restoration overseen by the Alfa Romeo Classiche heritage program with the assistance of Stellantis’ historical collection.
A new section of the Alfa Romeo website is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2023 and it will provide owners of classic Alfa Romeos to access all the information and support needed to begin working with the Alfa Romeo Classiche heritage program. We expect to see Alfa Romeos with Classiche Certificates of Authenticity bring stronger prices in the open market in the coming years.
