Mecum Indy 2022
The 35th Original Spring Classic auction will be held by Mecum in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Fairgrounds May 13 – 21. This sale will feature around 3,000 cars and trucks, plus more than 2,000 pieces of memorabilia and automotive art. More than 20 different private collections will be crossing the block.
Ford GTs are expected to the talk of auction with three different examples of the current iteration of the car scheduled to sell. One of them has a unique connection to Indianapolis as Pernelli Jones’ personal 2020 Ford GT. Also on offer is a 2019 Carbon Series example and 2020 Ford GT MkII – one of only 45 built.
Shelby will be another featured manufacturer, with a number of unique and original models available. These include a 1966 GT-350 with its original engine and transmission, an automatic-equipped ’65 Shelby 289 Cobra, a 1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra that won its class at Sebring in ’66, and a 1965 Shelby GT-350R to name just a few.
The Ray Evernham collection of 32 race cars and one engine is crossing the block at no reserve. A Mario Andretti-driven 1965 Brawner Hawk Ford Dean Van Lines Special Indy Car is expected to be the highlight of the Evernham collection, having taken the Indy Car Championship in 1965 and 1966, along with scoring pole at the 1966 Indianapolis 500.
Plenty of sports car will be offered as well, including a 2015 Ruf RT12 R, a 2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R, a very low mileage 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster, and an unrestored 1988 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Quattrovalvole. Other exotics hitting the auction block include a 2020 McLaren Speedtail and a 1957 Mercedes-Band 300SL Roadster.
Doors open each day at 8:00 AM and the main event – the collector car auction – is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM from May 13 to May 18, starting earlier the remaining days of the sale.
