Hertz Shelby Back Again
Return of the rental king! Hertz and Shelby are at it again – the rent-a-racer is back and more powerful than ever, boasting more than 900 horsepower in some examples. Shelby will produce two different versions of the Ford Mustang for Hertz as part of a tribute to the 60th anniversary of Shelby American.
The first of the models, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H will be produced in both convertible and fastback models. Four colors will be produced, rapid red metallic, oxford white, carbonized gray and shadow black. Each car will feature gold racing stripes, much like those of the original Hertz GT-350H. They will also sport Hertz Edition and Shelby 60th anniversary badges and emblems.
The interior of the GT-H will be covered in Hertz and Shelby logos on the seats, floor mats, and door sill plates along with a uniquely numbered badge that will match another one located under the hood. All the power of the 5.0L V8 will be delivered to the streets through 20-inch aluminum wheels. A special “Shelby” branded taillight panel will complete the car’s styling.
The GT-H will be available to rent in select markets: Atlanta, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and Tampa. Nothing says family vacation to Orlando like getting behind the wheel of one of these and with an estimated daily rental price of $99, enthusiasts will be able to get lots of excitement without having to stand in lines at amusement parks.
Even more exciting is the GT500-H which will be powered by a 5.2L V8 producing more than 900 horsepower courtesy of a Shelby by Whipple Supercharger with a gold finish, in case you need to show off to anyone who might be looking under the hood. The GT-500H seems like it will be exactly the sort of car Carroll himself would have built today.
Shelby expects to build 25 examples of this modern muscle car. Shadow black paint will cover 19 of them, with another 6 to be finished in Oxford white. All examples will feature gold racing stripes and rocker stripes as well as Hertz Edition and Shelby 60th anniversary emblems. Similar to the GT-H, these will also feature numbered badges on the dash and under the hood.
Speaking of the hood, the GT-500H is shedding its original for a carbon fiber vented hood that decreases the car’s weight by 30 lbs. It will also sport very distinguished mono-block aluminum forged wheels constructed of lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum. The car will ride on 20 inch versions of these wheels at the front and back.
The limited production GT-500H will available to rent for an estimated $399 per day and offered only in these select markets: Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, and Tampa. We’re expecting to see at least a few of them cruising around Scottsdale during 2023’s car week!
