Steve McQueen's Porsche 917K Consigned

As fast paced as the collector car world can be, Mecum wasted no time in announcing one of their key consignments for the upcoming 2025 Kissimmee Auction, stunning all those in attendance by revealing the 1970 Porsche 917K that was driven by Steve McQueen in the movie “Le Mans.”

Back in 2017 we saw another 1970 Porsche 917K used in the production of “Le Mans”, chassis 917-024, cross the block at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction with an estimate of $13,000,000 to $16,000,000 and that example served as a camera car during filming. It ended up selling for $14,080,000.

The example to be offered by Mecum at their 2025 Kissimmee Auction served as the hero car in the film and was driven extensively by Steve McQueen during production. He ended up purchasing the car for himself following filming and subsequently has a completely documented ownership history that includes some well-known Porsche racing drivers following McQueen’s ownership.

The 1970 Porsche 917K Chassis 917-022 carries all the history of the example that sold in 2017 and then some. January seems a long time from now, but it also seems moments away and we will be watching the bidding on this car very closely.
