Passion for the Drive: Shelby 427 Cobra

The Passion for the Drive: The Cars of Jim Taylor auction is less than a month away and we want to highlight a specific car in the collection. Lot 843, a 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra is a remarkable example of the big block Cobra and has well-documented ownership history.

Three Owners, No Reserve

This Cobra, CSX 3299, has had only three private owners since new. Along with incredibly low mileage for a car that’s still sporting its original leather and door panels, it’s an incredible opportunity for someone looking to acquire a 427 Cobra.

Broad Arrow Auctions estimates the final price to be $1,200,000 – $1,400,000 which is very reasonable compared to other sales of 427 Cobras, especially when factoring in the limited ownership and the 7,360 original miles the odometer showed when it was catalogued for the auction.

This example is powered by a 427 V8 that was installed by Joe Ranalli, although the original 428 cubic-inch V8 is included with the car. Some cosmetic work was done to the car, including repainting it in the original color of Guardsman Blue and replacing the Wilton carpets, the original leather seats, door panels, lap belts, and “sunburst” wheels with three-bar aluminum knock-offs are still on the car.

We expect this car to be one of the highlights of the Passion for the Drive offering. It will be available in Gloversville, NY with no reserve so one way or another this is going to a new home! The Passion for the Drive: The Cars of Jim Taylor offering will be held October 14-15.
