Mecum Kansas City Trucks and SUVs
Mecum Auctions returns to Kansas City for their 31st annual classic car auction starting December 5 and running through December 7. Mecum anticipates as many as 850 vehicles will cross the auction block at the Kansas City Convention Center that run the gamut from muscle cars to customs, antiques, sports cars, and more.
One of the stars of the show is the 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special Fastback that will be offered on Saturday, a special model that was delivered exclusively to dealers in the Kansas City area. It will be joined by The Coastal Texas Collection, an assortment of 20 cars being offered with no reserve that features a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 which shows just 27,954 miles since new.
We previously examined some of the muscle cars that will be on offer in Kansas City this week so let’s take a look at some of the trucks and SUVs that will also cross the auction block at Mecum’s sale.
This 1980 Chevrolet C10 Pickup includes its books and manuals as well as the glovebox door build sticker. It benefits from a frame-off restoration and is powered by a 400 cubic inch V8 that’s paired with an automatic transmission.
This pickup is equipped with power steering and power brakes as well as air conditioning and features a new pickup box and front fenders that were completed during the restoration.
Chevrolet pickups from the 1970s have been very popular among collectors for the past several years so it’s only natural to see the market pay more attention to later model-year examples such as this one from 1980.
This may just be the finest Ford Bronco we’ve ever seen at auction. It benefits from a frame-off restoration that powder coated the frame and brought the bodywork down to bare metal. Its 5.0L V8 engine is equipped with aluminum heads and an Edelbrock intake as well as an Aces fuel injection system.
It’s finished in a stunning Eruption Green with a clear coat on top and includes a convertible top. The interior is finished in brown and is all new with a folding rear seat. The restoration included new wiring and an upgrade to a 23-gallon fuel tank. This may be our favorite of all the trucks set to cross the block at Mecum’s Kansas City auction.
A much less common classic truck, this 1948 International KB2 Pickup is fresh from a frame-off restoration and its 214 cubic-inch inline six-cylinder engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
The KB2 Pickup includes its original owner’s manual and a parts manual and features its original gauges that have been restored. Certainly not as well-known as the Ford or Chevrolet pickups of the same time, this will stand out from the crowd at most any cruise night and should garner plenty of interest from bidders.
This ’71 Chevrolet K5 Blazer is finished in a simple yet stunning gloss black paint with red accenting for the Chevy lettering on the lift gate. It’s freshly restored and is powered by a 350 cubic inch V8 that’s paired with a four-speed manual transmission that looks right at home in the red houndstooth interior.
It’s equipped with power steering and power brakes along with the desirable hardtop that can be removed. It features a custom stereo system and a dual exhaust that looks great under the chrome bumper.
While there are other Chevrolet pickups that will be offered by Mecum in Kansas City, it’s difficult to think of one that has the same level of visual appeal as this K5 Blazer.
Ford’s venerable F150 is by-far the better known variant of pickup from the manufacturer of the Mustang, but this 1979 Ford F350 Ranger Lariat Pickup hits all the right notes. It’s finished in a classic and era-appropriate Dark Jade Green Metallic with Wimbledon White contrasting paint and is equipped with the bed cab with sliding windows.
It features four-wheel drive and a limited slip rear axle along with heavy duty shocks and dual fuel tanks. It’s a one-owner truck and includes the original window sticker and owner’s manual, as well as the original sales invoice. There’s even a framed Marti report included with this truck! For the purist it just doesn’t get much better than this Ranger Lariat.
Mecum’s Kansas City auction will be held at the Kansas City Convention Center and run from December 5 through December 7.
